Poly Savi 7300 Office Series great solution for Return to Office

On March 5, 2021, we posted the Poly Savi 7300 Office Series Overview | NC Mic and Wireless Range Test video. It had been exactly a year since Call One, Inc. and Hello Direct, Inc. were sent to work from home due to the global pandemic. Today, we are getting requests for DECT Wireless headsets that achieve better density as some large organizations start heading back to the office.

Businesses are still reviewing and developing post-pandemic work models. Many will implement a hybrid work model that includes both in-office and remote work. For organizations that are going back full time and do not allow Bluetooth headsets on the premises, a dual connectivity DECT wireless headset that does not include Bluetooth is beneficial.

Desk Phone and Computer Connectivity

The Poly Savi 7300 Office Series offer desk phone and computer connectivity. They are compatible with existing EHS cables and Handset Lifter. Included in the box are both USB-A and USB-C cables for connecting to a computer’s USB-A or USB-C ports. The Savi 7300 Office Series are available in four models that include single and dual ear headband wearing styles. There are also Microsoft Teams Certified models.

What is the Savi 7300 Office Series?

The Savi 7300 Office Series is a new range of ultra-secure wireless DECT headsets for connection to a computer and/or desk phone. They do not replace any existing products. A key difference is security. The Savi 7300 Office Series headsets are designed to meet the highest level DECT Security Step C enhanced with Military level FIPS 140-2 listed features, such as 256-bit AES encryption. These are a great choice for financial, medical, government, contact centers, or anywhere sensitive conversations happen.

Acoustic Fence and Microsoft Teams Open Office

Additionally, the Savi 7300 Office Series headset uses a flexible noise-canceling microphone boom with Acoustic Fence technology, so conversations stay private. Acoustic Fence technology uses a second microphone on the ear cup to help identify and reduce background noise. The Savi 7300 Office Series meets the Microsoft Teams Open Office specification.

Microsoft Teams Certified

The Savi 7300 Office Series are the first Poly Microsoft Teams certified DECT™ headset with dedicated Microsoft Teams button. When pressed, the Teams button brings the Microsoft Teams desktop client to the front of the screen. If there is a message waiting or other notification the application will open to that screen – for a seamless Microsoft Teams experience.

Conference Feature for Training

Like all other Poly DECT Wireless headsets, the Savi 7300 Office Series supports multi headset conferencing. You can conference up to 3 additional headsets to a call in progress. This is a great feature for training Customer Service Representatives, contact center agents, or new team members. You can also mix desk phone and softphone calls together via Savi 7300 Office Series.

2x Better Density

The Savi 7300 Office Series makes more efficient use of the available spectrum by using the latest compression and modulation techniques as well as a new codec to provide up to 2x better density (compared to existing Poly and competitor devices) without impacting audio quality. There is no question that wireless headsets increase productivity. A challenge for large enterprises is deploying large numbers of wireless headsets without impacting performance. If you are looking to deploy large quantities of wireless headsets in single location, it’s best to contact an Authorized Poly Reseller like Call One, Inc. or Hello Direct to start a wireless density survey for your location/s.

Complete Audio and Video Solutions

The Savi 7300 Office Series are part of a comprehensive set of endpoints that support your businesses voice, video, and collaboration needs. Poly Solutions support personal and group audio and video devices to include headsets, speakerphones, video solutions, conference, and desktop phones as well as software and services. Poly Voyager Focus 2 | Engineered for Audio Perfection

The Poly Voyager Focus UC was launched in late 2015. It set the standard for enterprise headset by offering a comfortable headset with the headband and sling design along with including active noise canceling (ANC) speakers. The Voyager Focus UC has been an extremely popular and a favorite, top-selling headset. According to Persona Research October 2020 Factworks, 94% of workers experience ambient noise during calls – this is up from 71% in 2017. The new Poly Voyager Focus 2 headset creates a “focus zone” around the user thanks to the latest digital Hybrid ANC with three level settings that allow the user to select the right level of noise reduction based on their current environment. The pro-grade microphones with Poly’s Acoustic Fence technology provides 200% better transmit noise reduction compared to the Voyager Focus UC (according to Poly).

A great feature the new Poly Voyager Focus 2 provides is the ability to use as a corded USB audio device. However, with the extended talk time of up to 19hrs, not certain when that will be needed but it’s a nice option to have.

To provide even greater flexibility and connectivity options, Poly offers the Voyager Focus 2 Office variants that allow users to connect to a desk phone, computer, and mobile phone. The Voyager Focus 2 UC variants support computer and mobile phone connectivity.

These models are ideal for professionals on calls all day in noisy home or office environments looking for a premium solution.

Poly Voyager Focus 2 Features

  • The ultra-comfortable headband with sling ensures that the weight of the headset is evenly spread across the head – making it comfortable for all day use.
  • The plush ear cushions mold to the user’s ear for greater comfort
  • With up to 19 hours of talk time it can be used all day – for both work and leisure.
  • With the audio over USB mode – if users forget to charge their headset they can simply plug in and use as a corded headset – the best of both worlds.
  • The Digital Hybrid ANC reduces the background noise so users can stay focused on the task in hand and not be distracted.
  • The discreet microphone boom with acoustic fence technology ensures that any background noise is not heard by the far end. The noise-canceling works so well it meets the requirements of Microsoft Teams open office premium microphone specification.

Top 5 Picks for UC USB Speakerphones for Hybrid Work and Work from Home

One thing we have all learned from countless hours of video meetings via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, and more is that audio is critical. Don’t get me wrong, great video resolution from a business webcam certainly enhances the overall experience. But, if you cannot hear or be heard, the productivity of the video meeting suffers.

Corded USB Headsets and Wireless Headsets certainly fit the bill when it comes to providing professional-grade audio quality. Those fortunate enough to have a dedicated workspace in their home or corporate office may find a personal USB Speakerphone to be extremely beneficial. They are a great primary or secondary audio device. As organizations develop device standards for hybrid and remote work, USB speakerphones should be included as options. USB Speakerphones offer these key features:

  • Always On – Every speakerphone listed in this blog has a USB cable that can be used to power the speakerphone when connected to a computer. No need to change batteries or use an additional AC power supply. Just plug into your computers USB port to start using.
  • Mute feature – When on a call, the mute button is your friend. These speakerphones have a prominent mute button that allows you to quickly mute to block out undesired noise from pets, children, lawn mowers, blenders, significant others or even a cough or sneeze from you!

I have tested several personal USB Speakerphones from these leading brands: Poly, Jabra, EPOS, Konftel, Yealink, and Yamaha UC. You can check out the multiple test videos in this Business Personal and Small Group Speakerphones Video Playlist.

Price

Personal USB Speakerphones range in price from MSRP of $99.95 for a basic Poly Calisto 3200 all the way to $329 for the premium Jabra Speak 750 and $349 for the Yamaha UC YVC-330 that supports up to six people.

Connectivity

Beyond, USB-A or USB-C corded connectivity, some speakerphones offer USB Bluetooth dongles for wireless connectivity to your computer and Bluetooth and/or NFC pairing to your mobile device. Some include a 3.5mm jack and select models include a 3.5mm headset port.

The 3.5mm headset port is an ideal option for use cases that require the user to switch from public to private conversation by simply plugging in a 3.5mm headset. These models offer this feature:

Models with Bluetooth and/or NFC are great for pairing your mobile device. This greatly improves the overall audio quality of voice calls and streaming music and media! Please note that not all Bluetooth models include a USB dongle for wireless connectivity to your computer.

Compatibility

Business-grade speakerphones are compatible with all major communications and collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, 8×8, and more.

Select models have met Microsoft Teams specification certification requirements. This peripheral certification program ensures USB devices like headsets, speakerphones, and webcams are plug and play and will work, to include call control with no extra configuration required. Some devices are Skype for Business certified with Teams upgrade. Newer devices will be Certified for Microsoft Teams and include a dedicated Teams button with LED indicator.

Full Duplex

Full duplex speakerphones allow a more natural conversation since both parties can transmit audio simultaneously. Most speakerphones support half-duplex where each party can transmit audio one at a time. Currently only select USB speakerphones have full-duplex audio.

My Top 5 Picks for USB Speakerphones

For over a year, like many I have been working from home. As empty-nesters, my wife and I are fortunate to each have dedicated rooms in our house to use as offices. She is a Director of Human Resources and like me spends a lot of time on voice and video calls. My wife has long curly hair, so headsets are not her friend. She prefers to use a speakerphone. I spend most of my days on video calls or, filming videos for our YouTube Channel. Even back in our corporate HQ, I had a dedicated office so my set ups are similar minus the revolving door of people that would physically come in and out of my office. Now it is IM’s, texts, and impromptu video meetings. Because I test audio and video devices as part of my role, I have several devices always connected.

Please note, no manufacturer is paying me, and I am not in any affiliate program. These are my picks based on my personal tests and preferences.

1. Jabra Speak 750 – This is my current default USB speakerphone. The audio quality is superb, and I love the kickstand feature which helps to reduce the footprint and direct the audio towards me. And, like the Jabra Speak 710, it has the Link button that allows you to wirelessly pair two Speak 750’s to cover a larger area. Check out this video comparing the Speak 710 and Speak 750!

2. Poly Sync 20 – I love the way this sounds when streaming music! In addition to the Jabra Speak 750, I have the Poly Sync 20 paired to my mobile device so I can play music in between video meetings and if I happen to get a mobile call, I use it for improved audio quality. As an added feature, I take advantage of the USB port to keep my mobile phone charged! Get a complete audio and video solution with the Poly Studio P5 Webcam with Poly Sync 20 for only $249.95! See and hear the Poly Sync 20 in action! Check out this video on the Poly Studio P5!

3. Yealink CP700 – This is the younger sibling of the Yealink CP900, but I must tell you, I’m a fan of the kickstand feature. The audio quality is very consistent throughout calls across multiple platforms and it is priced at MSRP of only $129! (currently on our website Yealink CP700 only $104.95!). Unlike the other models that provide a neoprene carry case, the Yealink CP700 and CP900 include a solid, sturdy carry case to provide greater protection as you travel back and forth between locations. Watch this Yealink CP700 vs CP900 Video!

4. Yamaha UC YVC-200 (Black or White) – Yamaha UC solutions don’t get enough attention in my opinion and they have great sounding products. All speakerphones mentioned have a Microphone Mute button so the other party cannot hear anything you are saying. The YVC-200 also includes a Speaker Mute button. Let’s say I’m jamming out to some music via the YVC-200 and my wife comes in to ask me something, I can very quickly hit the speaker mute button to quickly stop the sound. You can also get complete audio and video solution including the YVC-200 with these bundles.

5. Jabra Speak 510 – This rounds out my list. This is a solid performer that has been around since 2013. This speakerphone just works. Plug it in and start using it across all collaboration platforms. And would you believe I don’t have a video on this device? I have added to my list of videos to film. You cannot go wrong with the Jabra Speak 510.

When it comes to audio devices, it is important to stick with leaders in this space who develop solutions that provide professional audio quality, are easy to set up and use, and are compatible across all business collaboration platforms. Remember when Huddle Rooms were all the rage?

Remember when huddle rooms were all the rage? All the top research and analyst firms had a ton of statistics like there were 32+ million huddle rooms globally with less than two percent being video enabled and that huddle-room meetings would grow exponentially to represent almost 70% of all video conferencing room meetings by 2022. Those statistics had manufacturers and businesses working overtime to ensure huddle rooms had the appropriate tech to support this boom.

No one expected what happened in 2020. Video conferencing did increase exponentially however, not in huddle rooms. Instead, people joined video calls right from the comfort (or discomfort) of their homes.

Because of COVID-19 there has been a huge increase in desktop video, remote learning and telehealth.

So what happens to all those huddle rooms? I don’t believe huddle spaces are going the way of the dodo bird however, their design and use may be different. Many organizations are retrofitting and redesigning their meeting spaces to support the new normal where health and safety are of utmost concern. They are reducing the number of people by 50% or more depending on size of room to maintain social distancing guidelines.

Some companies are in the process of implementing or are developing hybrid strategies that encompass a mix of in-office and remote work schedules. Some are considering making them private workspaces or a room where an individual can conduct training to the masses via video. And some businesses, haven’t done anything at all. The spaces are just sitting there as their teams continue to work from home.

Regardless, video conferencing and collaboration is here to stay. Brands like Logitech, Konftel, Yealink, Jabra and Poly have developed a broad range of video solutions to support any size room across the multiple video platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

We’re interested in hearing what your business is doing with huddle rooms. Drop us a comment. If you would like to learn more about video conferencing solutions for your meeting spaces, contact us!

With our testing (Video below) we found a slight increase in microphone quality, with a sharper yet smoother sound. Things like the mute, volume up/down, and the dedicated Microsoft Teams button transfers over to the current model.

Overall we are impressed with the updated UH36, and the performance it puts out. If you have any question regarding the product, feel free to reach out to one of our reps and they’ll be sure to help with any questions.
