A lot of agents work from home now and are responsible for their own equipment, and many just go on Google or Amazon and buy whatever is cheapest, but they don’t always get the best option. Since returns are expensive and time consuming we decided to compile a few questions we often receive.
What is an authorized reseller and why is it important?
An authorized reseller has a contractual agreement with manufacturers to sell their products.
Buying from an authorized reseller protects you in several key ways:
- Guaranteed Authenticity: You avoid counterfeit items, or items from different regions with incompatible plugs / adapters or grey market used / resold items.
- Valid Warranties: Manufacturer warranties often only apply if the item is bought from an authorized source.
- Official Support & Returns: You are entitled to the brand’s official customer support, software updates, and return policies if the product fails
Some common product related questions we hear often
What is the difference between USB-A and USB-C?
USB-A
This is the larger, rectangular USB port you’ve seen for years. Many older laptops and docking stations still use it.
USB-C
This is the smaller, rounded, reversible connector most modern devices use — including newer laptops, tablets, and phones.
What does “QD” mean? And why a QD headset isn’t complete on its own.
QD stands for Quick Disconnect. It’s a two-part system:
- The headset
- The bottom cable (also called a “lead”)
The QD connector sits between them, so you can unplug quickly without losing your call. Below is an image of a typical quick disconnect adapter
But here’s the part that catches people out:
A QD headset won’t work unless you also have the bottom cable.In most cases, the headset and bottom cable need to be from the same brand to work properly, unless you’re using brands like JPL that purposely make cross-compatible leads.
If you buy the headset but forget the bottom cable, the headset will not work by itself.
What is a Dongle? And why would you need one?
A dongle is a common nickname for a USB Bluetooth adapter
Dongles come in USB-A and USB-C versions and plug into your computer or laptop to set your computer as the primary Bluetooth device for that headset.
For example you have your headset paired with your smartphone and are listening to music or a podcast and a call comes into your PC via Zoom or Teams the dongle will make the smartphone pause that music and switchover to the call making it the focus of your headset.
It does this automatically meaning you don’t have to manually switch which device your headset is connected to if you have a meeting or call. Eliminating the downtime of pairing the headset multiple times during the day.
What are the differences between Bluetooth vs DECT?
Bluetooth
What it is:
A universal wireless technology used for connecting personal devices — phones, laptops, tablets, speakers, keyboards, mice, and headsets.
Bluetooth has a shorter range than DECT up to about 30 feet from the item it is paired to at a maximum
DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications)What it is:
A wireless technology designed specifically for high-quality voice communication, used in cordless phones and professional headsets.
Most DECT headsets either come with a stand that has a lot of the DECT security in it or a DECT dongle which is often much larger than a typical Bluetooth Dongle. DECT can have a long range of up to 500 feet but does require line of sight.
The main reason a company would choose DECT options is because of security of sensitive information such as in banking or healthcare, or they work in an office with high Bluetooth density.
UC vs Microsoft Teams Versions: What’s the difference?
Microsoft MS Teams Version
- Must include a Teams button to be a Teams Certified product.
- MS Teams Rooms also work with MS Office 365 products for content sharing
- Works with a wide range of communication apps — Zoom, RingCentral, Webex, and more..
- Zoom Rooms are more open to users on other platforms to still participate
In most cases, you will be able to use the headset as an audio device with your platform, however you may lose some of the features of using a certified device. For example, you may not have call control (answer/hang up, volume +/-, mute) from the buttons on your headset. You will need to use the buttons in the platform itself for these functions.
